Highway clean-up on October 18, 2008
Our semi-permanent captains, Betty McMichaels and Joe Milo,
will lead the two teams again. The South Team (Joe, with Skip
Ravenhorst acting for him) will pick up
trash along Route 11S from the intersection of Route 11S and Possum
Hollow Road back toward Lexington to a point about 1 mile from the
end of the Lexington Bypass. The
North Team
(Betty) will pick up
trash on the interchange area at the Timber Ridge Exit off I-81.
Results
this time: The eight North Team volunteers picked up 18 bags of trash.
The five South Team volunteers picked up ten bags of trash.
We do this twice a year; once in the Spring and once in the Fall.
Rockbridge Christmas Basket Program on December 20, 2008
To make the Christmas Season more enjoyable, over 1500 baskets of food, candy, and toys are delivered annually to needy families in Lexington, Buena Vista, and Rockbridge County. Begun in 1948, the program is promoted as a community-wide effort and is supported entirely by contributions. In 1986, the Lexington Rotary Club offered to assume financial responsibility for the Program if funding shortfalls required, thus backing the program and enabling its leaders to proceed with confidence, and over the years the club has provided annual support of labor to help distribute the baskets.
This year's packing starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday December 20 at the Virginia Horse Center main arena. Our club distributes baskets on the packing day in the City of Lexington
